This little project has been ongoing for over a year. Rif and I have been going around Klang Valley in search of the best Hokkien Mee. We’ve visited over 40 locations to compile this Top 10 list. To double-check the quality, we visited several outlets. These are our top picks, in no particular order.
Damansara Hokkien Mee
Many people claim that Damansara’s Hokkien Mee has been taken over by foreign workers and that they don’t cook it anymore. They may be right, but the Hokkien Mee still tastes good. It’s a place I frequent for dinner. Even two weeks ago, the noodles were still good. The wok hei was good and the noodles had enough flavor.
Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee
Jalan 21/37, Damansara Uptown
Damansara Utama,
Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Hours of Operation: 5pm – 2am
Ah Wa Hokkien Mee, Jalan 222
Ah Wah Hokkien Mee is a well-known institution. I am certain it will grow. They are always packed at night and have been consistent over the years.
The noodles are prepared over a charcoal fire and come with a generous amount of wok Hei. You can also enjoy a good amount of sambal chili. The noodles arrive in no more than 30 minutes because there are so many cooks.
Restoran Ah Wa (Behind Jalan 222 Shell Station)
66, Jalan 14/48, Petaling Jaya
Every day, open from 6pm to 2am
Ah Wah Hokkien Mee, Taman Paramount
Ah Wah was located in Taman Paramount, which I discovered when I visited the area for dinner a few years ago. Ah Wah also offers Hokkien Mee, although it is slightly more wetter. These noodles are chewier, and they come with plenty of lard as well as pork slivers.
Ah Wah Hokkien Mee
Restoran Millennium Eighty Six
Jalan 20/22, Taman Paramount,
Petaling Jaya.
Pudu Hokkien Mee
Thanks to some of my loyal followers, I found this hidden gem. The stall is right next to Fei Por Chicken Rice. There isn’t any signboard, but it’s easy to miss the tables and chairs along the sidewalk.
Although the Hokkien Mee may be decent, it is not as delicious as Ah Wah 222, Ah Wah Taman Paramount’s. It is, however, still one of my favorite Hokkien Mees in Klang Valley. If you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by.
Pudu Charcoal Fried Hokkien Mee
215, Jalan Pudu,
55100 Kuala Lumpur
Jalan Imbi Hokkien Mee
Jalan Imbi’s Hokkien mee has a steady stream of customers. The noodles were delicious and cooked perfectly with plenty of wokhei. Although this has a stronger flavor than the Hokkien Mee of Pudu, the portions are still quite small considering the price.
Jalan Imbi Hokkien Mee
Restoran Win Heng Seng
183, Jalan Imbi,
55100 Kuala Lumpur.
San Kee Hokkien Mee
San Kee actually houses a coffee shop that also has a noodle stall that sells Hokkien Mee and Cantonese Fried Noodles. The uncle who runs the stall is friendly and quiet. He can also be asked for extra lard to make your Hokkien Mee even more delicious.
The noodles were tasty and didn’t have an alkaline taste or smell. The portion is decent, and the price is reasonable.
San Kee Restaurant
Jalan Riang 11, (same row with Meng Kee Char Siew).
Happy Garden,
Taman United

Kim Lian Kee Hokkien Mee
Kim Lian Kee’s Hokkien mee is very popular, just like Ah Wah in Jalan 222. There are many branches throughout Klang Valley. Petaling Street’s main outlet has become a tourist attraction. The food is horrible and you shouldn’t go there at night.
Hokkien Mee is much more delicious during the day. This is what I used to eat when I worked nearby.

Restoran Bubur Goreng, Klang
Although I’m most familiar with the Hokkien Mee, the Hokkien Porridge is my favorite. The noodles are saucier and come with plenty of pork slivers. This is a great option for Hokkien Mee lovers who like a little gravy.
I think traditional Hokkien Mee enthusiasts wouldn’t.

Peng Yuan Hokkien Mee
Peng Yuan Hokkien Mee can be found just up the road from Ah Wah, Jalan 222. The noodles are almost as good as Ah Wah’s. The noodles are cooked in a lot of wok hei, and the turnaround time is much faster than that for Ah Wah’s.

Tiong Hokkien Mee
According to my sources, the man running Tiong Hokkien Mee used Ah Wah’s training and his noodles are quite good. Although it was better to fry them in smaller batches, he now cooks the noodles in larger woks to serve more people.
It’s still quite decent so I decided to add it to my Top 10 List.
